Origins: The Philly cheesesteak was invented in the 1930s by Pat Olivieri, a hot dog vendor in South Philadelphia. One day, he decided to grill some beef on his hot dog cart, which he then placed in a roll. A passing cab driver caught a whiff and asked for one himself, marking the birth of the iconic sandwich.
